Where to Find Cheap Mattresses

Are you looking to get a good night’s sleep on a really good mattress, but like me you feel and question why mattresses cost so much money? I must say, I was shocked to find out that most people finance the cost of their mattresses. I mean of all of the things that we “have” to get into debt over…a mattress? Well the smart and savvy shopper knows that you never have to pay full price for anything. The savvy shopper knows where to find cheap mattresses. Mattress stores are set up in almost every new shopping center or strip mall around but that doesn’t mean that those are best places for the best prices. What’s interesting though is, I never see a line outside of the door of a mattress store with people trying to break the door down to make sure they get the biggest, baddest,  most awesome and latest mattress to hit the market. If I’m really frank, I never see anyone inside of the store either. I mean, who walks around to window shop at the mattress store? Yet, these stores set up and I think, almost never go away. They stay in business somehow. I actually, jokingly said to my husband once, that there must be some dirty money in the mattress business, because of how they suspiciously pop-up like any other business, does well, but have like only 1% traffic in their establishments as compared to other stores and types of stores. It was a joke, he thought it was hilarious. I get it though, it’s really like a furniture store and once a purchase is made, most people make monthly payments for a number of month until the item is paid for. And while we generally keep our mattresses upwards of ten years, the price that we pay will most often reflect that. They have to charge so much because a mattress for most people is literally a once in a lifetime buy. I know in my circles, people give their old mattresses away and pass them on to family and friends. This could potentially keep a mattress in circulation for two generations. Fascinating, I know. A huge piece of the pie for mattress companies is the hospitality industry. Hotels are always buying mattress and lots of them speaking of the hospitality industry…this brings me to one of the first places you can find mattresses for cheap.

Where to Find Cheap Mattresses

When hotels are switching out all of their mattress, to buy new ones, they generally sell their used ones for little to nothing. The question is, how do you find out about such sales. I’m sure you could Google it to find some information on how, why and when do hotels buy new mattresses for their beds. Beyond that, check with any relatives or friends who work in the industry. I used to, now my mother in law does and I still have some friends who are in the hotel business. In fact I got a call one day from a friend who told me that the luxury hotel where her mom worked were selling off their king and queen sized mattress set for $300.00. That, my friend is a sure fire way to find a mattress for cheap. Another awesome avenue is closeout stores. Biglots always has cheap mattresses or good deals on great mattresses. Stores like the JCPenney outlet who have surplus throughout the year but still want to make some money on their product to offset any losses or to compensate for a lack of sales during the year, offer great prices as well. Then there’s of course buying used mattresses but who I say, can stomach that thought? Sometimes though, the wallet or bank account will determine what one can stomach, I know about that all too well. Don’t forget to check out eBay and the like, Craig’s List  and others for where to find cheap mattresses.
